Ward chairmen, LG executives and councillors rally behind “Dosmart” ahead of 2027 Osun Assembly race
Political momentum appears to be building in favour of Hon. Olawale Wasiu Afolabi, popularly known as “Dosmart,” following a sweeping endorsement by political stakeholders in Orolu Local Government ahead of the 2027 Osun State House of Assembly election.
In a major show of support, eight ward chairmen, 12 local government executives, and 140 ward executives declared Afolabi as their preferred candidate for the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency seat.
The endorsement, which reportedly also has the backing of the council vice-chairman, council secretary, and six councillors in Orolu Local Government, was conveyed in a joint resolution addressed to the State Executive Council and leaders within the Accord Party.
The stakeholders urged party leaders to uphold fairness, inclusivity, and internal democracy in the emergence of candidates, warning against what they described as the dangers of candidate imposition.
“It Is Orolu’s Turn” — Leaders Demand Equity
At the heart of the endorsement is a growing demand for the House of Assembly ticket to be zoned to Orolu Local Government, particularly Ifon-Osun, in the spirit of political balance.
According to the stakeholders, Irepodun Local Government has produced lawmakers for 16 years since 1999, while Orolu has occupied the seat for only 12 years.
They argued that zoning the position to Orolu would help correct the imbalance and deepen unity within the constituency.
Afolabi Described as Grassroots Mobiliser
The political leaders described Afolabi as a grassroots politician with strong acceptance among youths, elders, and party loyalists across Ifon-Osun and neighbouring communities.
They maintained that his loyalty to party structures and growing popularity make him a strong contender capable of leading the party to victory in 2027.
Pressure Mounts on Party Leadership
With endorsements now pouring in from key ward and local government figures, pressure appears to be mounting on party stakeholders to concede the ticket to Orolu Local Government.
The resolution ended with a passionate appeal to state leaders and influential stakeholders to respect what the group called the “collective decision” of Orolu political leaders by supporting the zoning of the assembly seat to the area and backing Hon. Olawale Wasiu Afolabi for the contest.
