A court in Osun State has remanded three persons over the alleged diversion and sale of government-owned mosquito nets meant for free distribution to members of the public under a health intervention programme.
The suspects were arraigned following an investigation by the Osun State Police Command into the alleged illegal sale of the mosquito nets.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the case came to light on June 9, 2026, after the Command received information regarding the alleged unlawful sale of government property.
Police identified the suspects as Rabbi Bennett, a native of Delta State and a staff member attached to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ife North Local Government Area, Ipetumodu; Opeyemi Ajibola, an Okada rider residing on Ayetoro Street, Ipetumodu; and Aminu Ibrahim.
The Command said preliminary investigation revealed that Bennett and Ajibola allegedly had a disagreement over proceeds realised from the unlawful sale of the mosquito nets.
Further investigation reportedly established that the three suspects allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 mosquito nets on June 8, 2026. The mosquito nets were said to have been designated for free distribution to members of the public under a government health intervention programme.
The suspects were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for interrogation. According to the police, they allegedly confessed to their involvement during the investigation.
The Police added that the matter has been charged to court, where all three suspects were remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further judicial proceedings.
The Osun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring that individuals entrusted with public welfare programmes are held accountable under the law.
The allegations remain before the court, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by the court.
