Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State commissioned the Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Leadership Centre at Adeleke University, marking a significant tribute to his late brother, the state's first executive governor.
Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke expressed "mixed feelings of joy and remembrance," highlighting the late senator's profound impact on Osun State's political landscape. He described his brother as "a school of thought in political leadership," whose "style, ideas, and philosophy are unique and peculiar."
The governor emphasized Senator Adeleke's "classic, people-centered governance approach," noting his commitment to equality and inclusiveness. "He was a leveler who detested discrimination in whatever forms. His artisan supporters are as important as his rich fans," Governor Adeleke stated. He further added that his late brother adopted an "Athenian model of democracy" ensuring all stakeholders had a voice in governance.
Governor Adeleke also highlighted his brother's dedication to infrastructure development and his ability to inspire followers. "His can-do spirit created a strong political followership. He mentored many new leaders who sustained the spirit of open governance and sustainable development," he remarked.
The leadership center, initiated by Hon. Bamidele Sallam, a mentee of the late senator, is intended to serve as a legacy project for future generations. Governor Adeleke commended Sallam for his efforts in preserving Senator Adeleke's legacy.
"It is my expectation that the center will run programmes of various dimensions on political leadership. The nation today needs more leaders equipped with skills in open governance, consensus building, public spiritedness and selfless public service," Governor Adeleke stated. He expressed confidence that the center, under the auspices of Adeleke University, will serve as a valuable platform for imparting these skills.
The governor officially commissioned the center in honor of Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the former Asiwaju of Edeland, acknowledging his lasting contributions to Osun State.
