Akande made the allegation in a statement issued on Saturday while reacting to a circulating release linked to the Federal High Court judgment concerning local government administration in Osun State.
According to him, a statement purportedly issued by the Osun State Police Command and signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Biodun Ojelabi, under the heading “Re: Recent Federal High Court Judgment in Osogbo Regarding Local Government” (Reference No: AZ: 5650/OSS/PPRD/VOL.11/206) was widely circulated within APC communication channels before gaining broader public attention.
He alleged that the manner of circulation raised serious concerns about the origin and authenticity of the document, insisting that the APC had effectively positioned itself as the primary channel through which police-related communications on the matter were being disseminated.
The Accord Chairman further expressed disappointment that instead of distancing itself from the controversial release and investigating possible impersonation, the Police Command later issued another statement on the same subject titled “Osun Police Command Urges Calm Amidst Recent Federal High Court Judgment” (Reference No: AZ: 5650/OSS/PPRD/VOL.T1/207), without making reference to the earlier document.
He described the omission as troubling, arguing that it created the impression of tacit acceptance of a communication that did not properly originate from the Command.
Akande alleged that the situation reflects a broader concern about the neutrality of the Osun State Police Command under Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, whom he accused of presiding over a Command that has allowed itself to be drawn into partisan controversies.
He called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to urgently intervene and review the conduct of the Osun State Police leadership, warning that continued silence or inaction could further erode public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
The Accord Chairman maintained that the Federal High Court judgment on local government administration remains clear and binding, stressing that the role of the Police should be the enforcement of law and maintenance of order, not involvement in political narratives or contested interpretations.
He therefore demanded the immediate redeployment of CP Ibrahim Gotan from Osun State, insisting that his continued stay in office could heighten tensions and weaken public trust in the security architecture of the state.
Akande added that Osun State has long been known for relative peace and political stability, warning that perceived institutional bias could threaten that stability if not urgently addressed.
