Akande made the allegation in a statement issued on Saturday, where he reacted to the circulation of a release concerning the recent Federal High Court judgment on local government administration in Osun State.
According to him, the statement in question, which was widely shared by members of the APC, was purportedly issued by the Osun State Police Command and signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Biodun Ojelabi, under the heading: “Re: Recent Federal High Court Judgment in Osogbo Regarding Local Government” with Reference No: AZ: 5650/OSS/PPRD/VOL.11/206.
The Accord Chairman claimed that credible indications suggest the release did not originate from the Police Command, alleging that it was first circulated by APC officials, including the state party chairman, Kola Olabisi, across WhatsApp platforms before appearing through official-looking channels.
He expressed concern that instead of promptly disowning the controversial statement and investigating those allegedly impersonating the Police Command, the leadership of the Command allegedly issued a follow-up statement on the same subject matter titled: “Osun Police Command Urges Calm Amidst Recent Federal High Court Judgment” with Reference No: AZ: 5650/OSS/PPRD/VOL.T1/207.
Akande noted that the second statement made no reference to the earlier release, a development he described as disturbing and capable of creating the impression that the Police had effectively adopted a communication that did not originate from them.
He alleged that the pattern raises serious concerns about the neutrality of the Osun State Police Command under Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, whom he accused of allowing the Command to be drawn into partisan activities.
The Accord Chairman called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to urgently intervene and review the conduct of the Osun State Police leadership, insisting that the situation, if left unchecked, could further erode public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He further stated that the Federal High Court judgment on the local government dispute remains clear and unambiguous, adding that the Police ought to focus on enforcing the law and restoring order rather than issuing statements that appear to legitimize disputed political positions.
Akande described the situation as unacceptable, alleging that the Police Command has failed in its responsibility to remain neutral in a politically sensitive matter.
He therefore demanded the immediate redeployment of CP Ibrahim Gotan from Osun State, insisting that continued stay in office could further undermine public trust and heighten tensions.
Osun State, he said, has historically maintained relative peace, warning that any perceived institutional bias could threaten that stability if not urgently addressed.
