The Accord Party in Ward 8, Osogbo Local Government Area, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to weaponise the recent video involving Mr. Taoreed Faronbi to score political points, describing the effort as another failed propaganda campaign driven by desperation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ward leadership said the facts surrounding the matter were straightforward and could not be distorted, regardless of the political narrative the APC was attempting to build.
According to the statement, Faronbi was an active member of Accord Ward 8 who personally reported the incident to party leaders and requested their intervention.
The leadership explained that after hearing his account, the matter was taken to the party's leader in Osogbo, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, who advised that it be formally reported to the police so that the law could take its course.
The party said this sequence of events exposed what it described as the APC's deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
"The same APC that now seeks to demonise our leaders cannot deny the simple fact that Mr. Faronbi voluntarily came to us for help. If our leaders had anything to hide, why would they immediately direct him to the police?" the statement queried.
Accord Ward 8 alleged that the APC had become increasingly reliant on media manipulation and selective narratives as it struggled to gain political traction, adding that the latest attempt had failed because the facts remained verifiable.
The leadership also clarified that Faronbi had never formally resigned from the Accord Party, noting that no resignation letter had been submitted and that he remained on the party's records.
It accused the APC of trying to manufacture controversy where none existed, insisting that no Accord leader instructed Faronbi to record or circulate any video.
"The APC should stop chasing headlines with recycled propaganda and allow security agencies to concentrate on investigating the real incidents of political violence confronting the state. Manufacturing controversies will not erase facts, nor will it change the truth," the statement added.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peace, lawful conduct and cooperation with security agencies, maintaining that while propaganda may dominate the news cycle for a moment, it cannot replace facts or defeat the truth.
