Governor Ademola Adeleke has relocated the widow of the late Accord Party member, Mr. Aderogba, and her children from Esa Oke to the Osun State capital, describing the move as part of measures to guarantee their safety and welfare following the killing of their breadwinner.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor's Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.
According to the statement, the widow, Mrs. Tolulope Aderogba, and her four children have been moved to Osogbo, where the state government has provided accommodation and other welfare support.
The governor also approved full educational scholarships for the four children of the deceased, while extending the gesture to a fifth child who had been living with the Aderogba family at the time of the incident.
The statement added that upon arriving in the state capital, the widow required medical attention, prompting Governor Adeleke to direct that she receive immediate treatment, which is currently ongoing.
The relocation exercise was coordinated by the spokesperson to the Imole Campaign Council, Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, alongside the member representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the relocation was completed on Friday evening following concerns over the safety of the widow and her children. It also noted that Olajengbesi made a personal donation to support the bereaved family.
Governor Adeleke later visited the family and assured them that the state government would ensure their safety while pursuing justice over the killing of Mr. Aderogba.
The statement further recalled that the widow had narrated the circumstances surrounding her husband's death, alleging that a personal assistant to Hon. Wole Oke and the youth leader of Esa Oke were present during the incident.
Governor Adeleke also urged the police to respond to reports that some residents of Esa Oke were allegedly being threatened because of their political affiliation, warning that prompt action was necessary to prevent another tragedy.
"I am happy the widow and children are now fully secured here at the capital. We have made all arrangements for the schooling and other needs of the family. The state will ensure their safety, care and justice for the late Aderogba," the governor said.
Speaking further, Adeleke said he was monitoring the implementation of directives issued by the Inspector General of Police through the Deputy Inspector General of Police following recent security engagements in the state.
"It is getting to 72 hours after the meeting. Forty-eight hours ago, the Deputy Inspector General of Police also held an operational meeting with the service commanders in the state.
"We expect immediate action to implement directives of the Inspector General of Police. I am hoping that no police officer will defy openly conveyed instructions and operational orders duly issued by the IGP," the governor added.
Governor Adeleke again extended his condolences to the Aderogba family and reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the killing are apprehended and prosecuted.
