Dr Afolabi, UNIOSUNTH CMD Inducted into Hall of Fame After Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award

The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, has received international recognition after being honoured with the prestigious Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award and subsequently inducted into the Hall of Fame by the International Peace Human Rights Education Council.

The double honour was bestowed on Dr. Afolabi in recognition of his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment to healthcare excellence, and significant contributions to public health and medical service delivery in Nigeria.

The award and investiture ceremony, held at White Plain Hotel & Suites, was attended by senior government officials, healthcare stakeholders, civil society leaders, members of the academia, and other distinguished personalities from across the country.

Speaking after receiving the honours, Dr. Afolabi expressed appreciation to God Almighty for the recognition, describing it as a tribute to the collective efforts of everyone working to improve healthcare delivery in Osun State. He dedicated both honours to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for his sustained support and investment in the health sector, as well as to the Management Committee and entire staff of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital for their dedication and teamwork.

Beyond the Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award, Dr. Afolabi was inducted into the Hall of Fame as an International Human Rights African Medical Personnel and Royal Ambassador, in recognition of his outstanding record in healthcare administration, public health innovation, humanitarian service, and efforts to expand access to quality healthcare for residents of Osun State.

He noted that the recognition would serve as a greater call to service, reaffirming his commitment to providing visionary leadership at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. According to him, the institution will continue to pursue reforms that enhance specialist healthcare services, strengthen community outreach, improve patient experience, and uphold the highest standards of medical excellence.

The Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award recognises exceptional individuals whose leadership, integrity, and service have positively impacted their communities, institutions, and nations, while the Hall of Fame induction celebrates distinguished professionals whose contributions continue to advance humanity.

Dr. Afolabi was accompanied to the ceremony by members of the hospital's management team, including the Director of Administration, Dr. Oladepo Owolade; Director of Finance, Mr. Banji Ajiteru; Director of Hospital Services, Mrs. Bolanle Alo; Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Beatrice Anihuntodun; Deputy CMAC (Clinicals), Dr. Emmanuel Folami; and the Head of Corporate Affairs Department, Mr. Abimbola Idowu.
